5th Sunday of Lent.... For those of you who do not know what Lent is, let me explain. LENT is a period of preparations for Easter celebration. This period of Lent remember the Lord's passion , His sufferings and finally, His crucifixion and death. It started on Ash Wednesday when we we remember that we are dust and unto dust we return... but more that remembering that reality is the fact that we are reminded of the salvation that God has afforded us by his passion, death and Resurrection. On Holy Thursday, we will remember the symbolic act of Christ's gift of Himself in the Eucharist " Take and eat, this is my Body... Take and drink, this is my Blood" The Last Supper as it was called was the act of friendship shared in a meal. It is called AGAPE in Aramaic, meaning a sharing in love expressed by giving, a meal. On Good Friday, we remember His death. The final act of love was the giving of Himself in the cross. He said in one of the Gospel passages, " No greater love a man has than to lay down His life for his friends. I call you friends because I have told you what the Father has told me". On Saturday night, we call that Easter vigil, we stand guard for His Rising from the dead. The Resurrection of Christ is the culmination of our faith in the promises of God. We believe in God's promise of New Life, New Life in Christ. New Life means hope for everything that is good and true, everything that is noble and pure. His Resurrection is the proof that good triumphs over evil. Triumph of life over decay. Remember a shoot of green coming out of the earth...that is a triumph of a small seed over all the harsh element of the earth. I wish you all NEW LIFE this Easter....like a spring that will bring about all the beauty of the earth, flowers in bloom, all dead comes to life. HAPPY EASTER.
